How GEM made our visit an experience to share with our children for generations to come.
it was a fantastic day and here is why….
I am an Egyptian, and I have lived outside of Egypt my entire life. Visiting the pyramids has always been a hassle. Near the pyramids, salespeople have tried to bombard other visitors and me by selling souvenirs or overpriced camel and horse rides, which is frustrating. It can ruin the once-in-a-lifetime experience of visiting the pyramids.
I brought my wife to Egypt, and I wanted a no-hassle experience so she could see the true beauty of Egypt and the kindness of its people. So, I decided to go with GEM tours after reading the reviews.
I booked the tour three days in advance. After an hour of booking, I was contacted by Maged, the company's owner, via WhatsApp. He introduced himself and shared his excitement to be our guide to explore Egypt.
The night before he picked us up, he recommended we be picked up at 9 am instead of our original booked 10 Am tour. This way we can spend more time at the pyramids to explore. My wife and I both agreed to start at 9 am. The following day Maged was at our hotel at 8:30 AM. We departed the hotel at 9:20 AM because I was late which Maged waited patiently for us.
The ride from our hotel to the pyramid took about 45 minutes. The car was in excellent condition, and the driver was very safe. He drove the speed limit, was gentle on the brakes, “heavy breaking makes me nauseous in the back seat” he stayed with us all day, and he was genuinely happy to be a part of our experience exploring Egypt. He is also working on his license to become a certified tour guide which he will receive in the next two months.
Our first stop at the pyramids was terrific. Maged’s 20 years of experience showed. He was informative, enthusiastic, and well respected by all the security guards and other tour guides in the area. He was the man. Everything was so smooth and hassle-free—no one approached or harassed us. After we toured the pyramids he took us for a 30 minutes camel ride to a panoramic view of the pyramids. I am a 36 year old man and yes I do admit that the thought of riding a camel made me uncomfortable and hesitant which made me think twice about riding the camel. But after I manned up and followed my wife’s footsteps 😂 I got on that camel and It was a blast.
Once we got done touring the pyramids and taking pictures, Maged took us to a restaurant for lunch. Food was a good portion, tasted amazing, and staff were friendly. They manager knew Maged since middle school and treated us like family.
After lunch we went to the museum. The entry ticket to the museum was already included in the package I purchased from TripAdvisor, and since I don’t have any documents to prove I am Egyptian, I pay the same price as a tourist. At the museum, Maged was able to get me a ticket as an Egyptian, and he refunded me the extra money, which I respect him for his honesty and integrity. We ended the day by going to the bazaar, and he drove us back to the hotel.
I shared my experience here no to gain anything. I shared my experience because I love Egypt, and I wanted everyone to come here and have a fantastic experience that’s a hassle-free. With all honesty and from the bottom of my heart, I recommend Maged because he was able to show my wife and I the true beauty of my own country.
